Though Japan might be seen as uniform in culture across the country, there are ethnic or indigenous people in northern and southern parts of Japan. Ainu people from Hokkaido region and ryukyuan people from Okinawa region. Ainu people have their own language called Ainu and ryukyuan people have their own ryukyuan languages. Both these cultures and languages are gradually vanishing due to Japanese influence.
