Pope Francis of Roman Catholic Church recently visited Japan with a message "Protect all life". This was the second time a pope visited Japan over the whole history. And the first visit in 38 years. Pope, by his title, is one of the most influential persons across the world, guiding a population of about 1.3 billion. Also he is the head of Vatican City State. It was my first experience to see such a high profile person, directly.
Entry was allowed after applying though online web page and after winning the lottery. Event in Tokyo was conducted in Tokyo DOME stadium. Until when I entered the stadium, I had never thought that Pope had such a huge followers in Japan, considering the fact that only less than one percentage are Christians among the whole population. And Japanese people are generally not that serious in religious thoughts and practices. Pope entered the hall like a hero, kissed the babies, showered blessings to all who waited.
People were very happy that they were running around the stadium to see the pope.
Holy mass was conducted and with Pope in Japan 2019 theme song, ceremonies were concluded.
Comparing with India or Kerala, churches in Japan, generally follows a simple framework and very humble practices. Decorations and other expenses are not generally luxurious in Japanese Catholic churches.
